The Way to Properly Enhance Employee Motivation

It has been said that an army travels on its stomach and this is true. If an army is not provided with a reasonable source of supplies, then it can not effectively succeed in any of its operations.  Now, when it comes to the business world there is a somewhat similar situation that is present and this situation can be defined as follows: a business that does not enact proper employee motivation will be like a “starving army.” It will simply plod along until it collapses under its own weight.

As such, it becomes critical to motivate employees. Unfortunately, the way in which many companies go about trying to motivate employees is often performed incorrectly.

The Wrong Way to Motivate

If there ever was an absolutely awful way to enact employee motivation it would be to use punishment as a tool of motivation. Consider the following scenario: an employer raises daily quotas for complete work by 25% and any employee who does not meet the quota will be docked pay. This may get quick results in the short term, but it will lead to depressed morale and employees jumping ship to look for new jobs. The ultimate result of this will be a lost production and revenues. As such, to create an atmosphere of this nature should be avoided.

Use the Pros

When it comes to properly enacted employee motivation it is wise to seek those professionals who are brought in as success coaches who can greatly enhance employee performance. Proper employee motivation skills are not skills that can be pulled out of thin air. The ability to motivate employees is a solid skill and that is why professional coaches should be employed to conduct such training. These coaches have long since established the credibility of their performance and this means that using them as a tool to help with employee motivation would be a surefire method of success.

It Takes Time

Keep in mind, making a turnaround on employee motivation is not something that can occur in a week. It takes time to let the work of the pros sink in and that means serious patience will be needed to make sure that the hoped for results will occur. Of course, there also needs to be a reasonable timeline put in place in regards to evaluating whether or not the employees’ attitudes have changed and the desirable results occur. However, if a company is patient then the company will be success. It is as simple as that!
