Motivation In The Workplace
Today, management is very concerned about bringing motivation to
the workplace because without a doubt, a motivated workforce is bound to be successful and without it, there would
be a lack of quality in the workplace. It thus pays to consider the different aspects related to motivation in the
workplace, though it does have to be borne in mind that different solutions will be effective in different
workplaces.
Human Nature Does Not Change
Thus, if you are thinking about motivation in the workplace with
regard to an office, there would be a different set of rules as compared to those for a factory, or even a site
where construction is being undertaken. However, having said that, there is no denying the fact that there is one
factor that does not change under any circumstances and that is human nature and it needs to be taken into account,
especially how it changes under varied circumstances.
It thus needs to be understood that different types of
personalities will also influence motivation in the workplace, because people are different and personalities may
govern how to get the best out of different people. Some people may not get along with others, and of course if one
person thinks that something is constructive criticism, the other may deem it as being
bossy.
Another key factor to motivation in the workplace is rewards and
this is especially important because, to motivate others, there must be goals, and when such goals are achieved,
they must be rewarded. So, things such as promotions and bonuses as well as words of affirmation all go a long way
in motivating others.
If the workplace is not a place where one can work in a relaxed
atmosphere, productivity will surely suffer because people tend to spend between seven and ten hours there and thus
need to be comfortable if they are to be able to perform their duties well. Key to motivation in the workplace is
that workers must be able to socialize and work together while also sharing in the good times while at
work.
Another powerful feature of motivation in the workplace is
independence of the worker who must be able to think on his or her own and not have to be told what to do, which is
something that almost all employees do not like. If the employer lets employees know what is expected of them and
then allow them to do their work, this would act as a great motivation in the workplace.
Finally, motivation in the workplace also means giving employees
latitude to perform their tasks and leaving room for error. This said, having an alternative plan should things go
wrong is essential and another way of encouraging better performance, thus it acts as providing motivation in the
workplace.
