Leadership Training Program and the 'Five
Cs'
It does not matter today in which field you specialize.
Leadership qualities are sought and promoted in every aspect of
a professional’s life. Big name companies spend fortunes
training their managers as well as senior and mid-level
executives. Reports have shown that people whose leadership
qualities have been sharpened outperform those who did not go
through a good leadership training program.
What Are The 'Five Cs' That One Should Learn From A
Leadership Training Program?
You must have heard about the 5 Cs of Leadership – traits that
actually make a leader. There is no leadership training program
which does no dwell on this aspect. The five Cs that make a
leader:
The First C – Character
A leader needs to be able to inspire others. A leader will
always be an example both in his personal and professional
life. There is no compromise in the integrity of a leader. This
is what draws the line between a leader and a boss. A boss can
have any number of flaws; a leader ceases to be a leader if
he/she has the tiniest character flaw.
The Second C - Caring Nature
A leader values people and firmly believes that one is for all
and all for one. The leader binds his follower first with care
and concern. In return, people who follow the leader respond
with unwavering commitment. A leader becomes part of his team
only when he/she totally identifies with each and everyone in
his flock.
The Third C – Commitment
A leader is always committed to his work. A leader has a strong
sense of commitment and inspires this commitment in others too.
They work with a passion that spills over to others
effortlessly. They believe in what they do, and they are
totally committed to bringing the same to its logical end.
There is no space for doubts in their mind, and their actions
leave no scope for questioning.
The Fourth C - Confidence
A leader exudes confidence and self-esteem. It is this
confidence and self-assured demeanor that make you follow the
leader; to emulate what they do, to be part of their agenda. A
leader inspires confidence in all those who know and work with
him/her.
The Fifth C – Communication
A leader without communication skills is very rare. In the
majority of cases leaders are also compelling orators who can
instantly connect and motivate people on one-to-one basis as
well as in a group. Communication skills are what help the
leader keep contact with his people.
The above 5 Cs are indeed crucial to the overall composition of
a leader. Many times leaders are natural born, meaning they
possess these skills almost from birth. However, a good
leadership training program can harpen these skills, which
sometimes are dormant in natural born people - and it can build
these skills in others who may lack some of them. This is the
reason why today most of the corporate houses incorporate
leadership training programs in the overall annual training
curriculum for their middle and senior management
personnel.
